Horsham's older buildings carry a genuinely local feature: Horsham stone roofs. The heavy sandstone slabs quarried nearby were used across the town and the surrounding Weald, and they are still on a good number of roofs in and around the Causeway.
They change how roof work is approached. Horsham stone is heavy, brittle at the edges, and expensive and difficult to replace — you do not walk across it casually to reach a stack. Where a property has that roof, external stack inspection is done from a ladder set against sound masonry or from ground level, and if a job genuinely needs roof access we will say what access it needs rather than risk the roof.
