Chimney sweep in Selsey

Open fires, wood burners, multi-fuel stoves and thatch — swept, inspected and draw-tested, with the certificate emailed before we drive away. No call-out fee.

Sweeping in Selsey.

Selsey sits at the end of a low, exposed peninsula with sea on three sides, and that exposure is the defining fact for anything on a roof here. Wind comes off the water with nothing to slow it, and salt comes with it. Flaunching cracks sooner, pointing erodes faster, and pots work loose earlier than they would five miles inland.

The housing is largely low-rise — bungalows, chalet bungalows and seaside cottages, much of it twentieth century. Short flues are the norm, which sounds easier and often is not. A short flue has less height to generate draw, so it is far more sensitive to wind direction, to a cowl that is not quite right, and to any partial blockage at all.

Downdraught complaints are the common call here, and they are frequently not a sweeping problem. Wind blowing across an exposed stack can push smoke back down a flue that is perfectly clean.

Elsewhere in West Sussex.

Selsey sits on the same round as the rest of the county. No call-out fee anywhere on it.
