Sweeping in Farnham.
Farnham has one of the best-preserved Georgian streetscapes in the south, and Castle Street in particular is a run of substantial period townhouses. These are tall buildings with tall flues, several to a stack, serving fireplaces across three or four floors.
Height is an advantage for draw and a complication for everything else. A long flue generates good draught, but it also gives soot and tar more surface to cling to, and it takes longer to sweep properly than the length alone suggests because of the bends where it works its way around upper rooms.
South towards Frensham and Tilford the ground turns to heath and pine, and the work shifts to wood burners on properties where the fuel comes from close by.

The jobs that come up most here.
01
Open fires & inglenooks
Long Georgian flues take longer than their length suggests and want doing annually without fail.
02
Wood burners & multi-fuel stoves
The heathland properties south of the town burn locally cut wood, with the usual seasoning question.
We do all six across Farnham — this is simply what the local building stock tends to throw up. See everything we take on.
