Sweeping in Dorking.
Dorking sits in the gap where the Mole cuts through the North Downs, beneath Box Hill, and it is the most enclosed position on our round. Steep ground rises on more than one side of the town.
That topography produces real draw problems. Air moving over high ground and dropping into the valley can push down a flue rather than drawing across it, and properties tucked under the slopes get downdraught in specific wind directions that has nothing whatever to do with how clean the chimney is. Sweeping it again will not help; the right cowl usually will.
The town itself has a period core with cellars and old flues, and the surrounding villages towards Brockham and Mickleham bring larger properties with multiple stacks.
