Wareham is a Saxon town inside its original earth walls, but the buildings inside them are mostly Georgian — because a fire in 1762 destroyed much of the town and it was rebuilt in brick immediately afterwards.
That gives Wareham an unusually consistent centre: a town's worth of flues built to broadly the same pattern, at broadly the same date, and now more than two and a half centuries old.
