Chimney sweep in Swanage

Open fires, wood burners, multi-fuel stoves and thatch — swept, inspected and draw-tested, with the certificate emailed before we drive away. No call-out fee.

Sweeping in Swanage.

Swanage is a Purbeck stone town in a bay at the end of the peninsula, and the local stone is everywhere — walls, roofs, and the stacks themselves. It is a handsome material and it behaves differently from brick.

Purbeck limestone stacks weather in their own way, and the mortar between the courses takes the brunt of it. In a position this exposed — sea on one side, open downland behind — that weathering is continuous. Flaunching around the pots is usually the first thing to go, and a cracked flaunching lets water into the top of the flue where it does the most harm.

Stone-roofed properties here have the same constraint as Horsham's: the roof covering is heavy, brittle and not something to walk across casually. Access gets assessed honestly before anyone goes up.

Elsewhere in Dorset.

Swanage sits on the same round as the rest of the county. No call-out fee anywhere on it.
